Prime Minister Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama handed over $7 million in Lease Security Bonus Payout to landowners of Fiji Pine Limited at the Drasa Mill Complex in Lautoka. In handing over the cheques to over 40 Mataqali or Tokatoka’s, the Fijian Head of Government said this year has been by far the most exciting and successful year in Fiji Pine’s history. “We are announcing an entirely unprecedented pay-out to our landowners, this time in the amount of $7 Million, quite a long way from that first $350,000 payment made back in 2013,” he said. “It is the real result of the seven-year turnaround of this Industry, and of the real leadership and vision my Government has brought to the Fiji Pine Group.” Attended by close to 3,000 landowners who came from pine planting areas from all over Viti Levu, PM Bainimarama also thanked the Fiji Pine Group led by executive chairman Faiz Khan, board of directors and staff of the Group for their continued efforts in improving productivity. The Prime Minister also witnessed the final payment of almost $4.4m by the group to Westpac Banking Corporation – the final payment of their loan.
