Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Hon. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum held 2018 – 2019 National Budget consultations at the University of the South Pacific (USP) Laucala Campus in Suva. The nationwide public consultation is aimed at getting Fijians’ input into the national budget and see where more funds are needed to bring further economic growth. The A-G gave a presentation on the overview of the national economy, highlighting developments in the various sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, social protection system, employment rate and Fiji’s debt level. USP students raised questions on Tertiary Education Loan Scheme, TOPPERS scholarship and allowances, traffic congestion, quality of education, productive use of land resource, housing sector development, real estate, agriculture, opportunities for people with disability and house rentals. Close to 200 USP students and staff took part in the budget consultation.
