Attorney General Hon. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum today opened the new Women’s Correctional facility in Lautoka.

Hon. Sayed-Khaiyum who is also Minister for Justice also opened a newly upgraded K9 Unit, new staff quarters, and other amenities all valued at $5million.

In opening the new Women’s facility, the Attorney General highlighted that with the opening of the new facilities, it has allowed Fiji’s correctional services to be compliance with international standards.

“This is unprecedented and is testimony to the commitment of the Fijian Government towards our fallow countrymen and women who have been castrated,” he said.

“Also be commissioning of these facilities we have allowed our women from the western division to be closer to their families who play a critical role in the rehabilitation.”
