The Commissioner Western Division’s Office today launched its Geospatial Information System (GIS) interphase web mapping portal. The portal will provide much needed up-to-date data of various applications that have been loaded which are accurate and will assist the Divisional Commissioner to use when planning project of various nature such as infrastructure, health, crime, etc. The information (data) will also assist the office during natural disasters whether tropical cyclones, earthquake or bush fires. The portal has been launched in partnership with the Ministry of Sugar, United Nations Development Programme under its Pacific Risk Resilience Programme and Live & Learn. Commissioner Western Manasa Tagicakibau says the launch of the portal was an important step in ensuring measured approach to development. “It will also greatly assist in response planning during disasters,” Mr Tagicakibau said. “This programme augurs well with Government’s intent towards a modern Fiji and will be a great tool going forward in years to come when planning for development.”   [Source: Fijian Government]
