Global Ties

FijiFirst has made a significant impact and gained immense popularity among the southern Pacific nations and the international forum. This all began when our Leader and Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama, revamped the foreign policy of Fiji while the economy became modernised and liberalised. Fiji’s shift in foreign policy demonstrated its intensions to become a good and engaged global citizen. It had increased ties with many countries through formal diplomatic relations and sought membership in the Non-Aligned Movement.

With FijiFirst’s consistent efforts, Fiji has committed to becoming a good global nation through its longstanding contribution to peacekeeping and peacebuilding; Fijians have served in peacekeeping missions in Iraq, South Sudan, Liberia, Darfur and Timor-Leste. We have also modernised laws to bring about gender and social parity, removing archaic rules and ensuring compliance with international conventions.

We have established diplomatic relations with many countries across the globe and participated in naval and natural emergency exercises with other countries, which has proven to the rest of the world how ready and active we are, regardless of being a small island country.

We aim to prove that Fiji is no less than any other country in the international arena.
