ACTING PM MEETS WITH YAADEIN VISION MEMBERS

Acting Prime Minister and Attorney-General, Hon. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum today met with the members of Yaadein Vision at the Fiji Marriot Resort, Momi Bay in Nadi. The meeting was to discuss with the A-G, who is also the Minister for Education, a proposal by the Yaadein Vision to build a primary school in Korovuto, Nadi. Yaadein Vision is a global charity organization founded 18 years ago to assist people in need. The organization is operating in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United States and Fiji. Yaadein Vision International director, Bobby Mishra, said they have been assisting people in Fiji following natural disasters, and they also contribute towards the education sector. He said their proposal to build a school in Korovuto was another way of giving back to their country of birth. The A-G welcomed the group’s idea and said he looked forward to receiving a detailed submission on the school project. He suggested to Yaadein Vision to reformulate some of their ideas and send their proposal so that Government could see what can be done to work together on the school project. “We welcome your ideas, enthusiasm and commitment to the country of your birth. The reality is that we have to continuously improve our education system,” the A-G said. “There is a need for us to change the curriculum in the Fijian education system and we are going through a process now. Many areas need improvement such as some of the syllabus, which is old. Our goal is to ensure that all schools in Fiji, irrespective of their geographical location, have the same delivery of educational assistance. I look forward to a detailed submission from you.” The A-G also officiated at the handing over of a cheque of $108,000 from Yaadein Vision Australia to Yaadein Vision Fiji for the proposed school project. Meanwhile, Yaadein Vision Group will be distributing 800 food ration packs, kerosene stoves, mattresses, pots and solar generators to Fijians affected by Tropical Cyclone Josie and Keni. These will be distributed in affected areas in Nawaka, Korociri Road and Qeleloa Road in Nadi, Ba, Tavua and Lautoka this weekend.
