Hon. Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama officiated at the launch of the Young Entrepreneurship Scheme or “YES” at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva this evening.

The Young Entrepreneurship Scheme is an initiative targeting the development of young business entrepreneurs with innovative ideas intended to promote and harness the talents of young Fijians, to become ‘job creators’ rather than be just ‘job seekers’.

“We want our young people to think outside the box, and make Fiji a hub of innovation for the Pacific, and the world. We want them to be leaders in business, civil society and government, putting their ideas at the forefront of Fiji’s development, with their entrepreneurial spirit carrying our nation into the future,” Prime Minister Bainimarama said.

As part of the launch today, Prime Minister Bainimarama presented certificates to five youths who have already begun the programme of mentorship through the YES initiative, and that will continue over the next month.

Afterwards, the five winning entrepreneurs – Siwan Narayan of Lautoka, Sandhya Gounder of Nadi, Rovial Ryanl Kumar from Votualevu, Atunaisa Rainima from Tailevu and Vincent Padiachy of Labasa will be eligible to receive grant funding of up to $20,000 to pursue their business ideas.

They were selected by the YES judging panel after demonstrating that they not only have great business ideas, but a game plan to turn those ideas into profitable businesses.
