The staff of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, and the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources have pledged their support towards the ‘Movember’ campaign.

Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness on men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer.

Minister for Industry, Trade, Tourism, Lands and Mineral Resources Hon. Faiyaz Siddiq Koya today officiated at the launch of the Movember Campaign at the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources headquarters in Nasese, Suva.

While speaking at the event, Minister Koya said more than 20 prostate cancer cases are recorded in Fiji each year.

He urged men to undergo regular screening because early detection and treatment is vital in the fight against cancer.

The minister also commended the work of the Fiji Cancer Society in raising awareness on this disease.

“The Fijian Government is surely behind this campaign, considering that we share everything in common as a nation and people. What affects you, affects the Government. We have a common identity and so we need to take collective action against whatever or whoever threatens our existence,” Minister Koya said.

Thirty staff of the ministries of Industry, Trade and Tourism, as well as Lands and Mineral Resources have pledged to grow moustache or beard during the Movember Campaign and help raise money and awareness for prostate cancer.

The ministry has targeted to raise more than $5000.
