A total of 760 Fijians received small business grants of $1000 each from the Prime Minister Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama in Savusavu today under the Government’s Small and Micro Enterprise Grant Scheme. Administered through the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Scheme provides financial assistance for Fijians to establish/develop small or micro business ventures. In his address today, the Prime Minister stressed that his Government would continue to recognise the importance of small and micro businesses to families, communities and to the nation. He used the event to encourage Fijians to harness their talents and to look at venturing at business opportunities that would benefit their communities. On the second week of his tour in the Northern division, the PM told those present at the event that this year the Fijian government had allocated $11.1 million for this program. During the tour in Savusavu he also addressed issues on infrastructure development, education, land leases, fisheries and forests during a talanoa session with Fijians living in Savusavu and nearby villages. Today the Prime Minister also presented a new boat and engine to Naweni villagers, handing over of SME grants in Savusavu, opening of the new TLTB office and the opening of a new evacuation centre in Navakaka village, Savusavu.   [Source: Fijian Government]
